I’m having to write a program to use the Bisection Method to calculate the roots of an equation. I pretty much have everything done for that part, but I don’t know how to read in an equation from the user. I need to be able to ask the user what the equation is that they are wanting to use, and then somehow convert it to a usable format. Someone told me that one of java’s preloaded classes has a tool to where you can read in the equation as a string, and java can plug in an ‘x’ value to find ‘y.’ That is what I’m kind of needing to do… Just something so that they enter in the formula and can plug in 2 values. What I tried doing was asking the user for the coefficients and storing them in an array. I then used a for loop to call back all the coefficients and multiply them by the ‘x’ value. Everything in my code says that it should work, but when I try running it, I guess it is too complex because it never returns an answer or even move on to the next step… Can anyone help make my life easier??? Ok. I think that I know the solution, but I’m not too sure. the only hing on here that will make any sound what so ever are the drums. I have a desktop that has a network card and wireless network adapter. Running Windows 7. The wireless network adapter is the one connected to the internet. Then I turned on Internet Connection Sharing on it so that the wired connection can also get internet. My problem is that the IP address that is provided to the device connected to the wired local area connection keeps changing. The XBOX 360 can’t connect periodically and I have to reset the settings on it for it to get a new ip address. If I set the IP address manually, then it will work for a while and then won’t connect anymore until I make it get an automatic address (which gives it a new IP address). Then after a while it won’t connect again and I have to switch to manual and then automatic network settings again on the xbox360.

Whenever I try to uninstall Spy Sweeper, I get a prompt saying the uninstall program doesn’t exist (same result whether I do this through Start menu or Add or Remve Programs). Hey, Since defragging the disk won’t do much to improve Windows XP performance, here are 23 suggestions that will. Each can enhance the performance and reliability of your customers’ PCs. Best of all, most of them will cost you nothing. 1.) To decrease a system’s boot time and increase system performance, use the money you save by not buying defragmentation software — the built-in Windows defragmenter works just fine — and instead equip the computer with an Ultra-133 or Serial ATA hard drive with 8-MB cache buffer. 2.) If a PC has less than 512 MB of RAM, add more memory. This is a relatively inexpensive and easy upgrade that can dramatically improve system performance. 3.) Ensure that Windows XP is utilizing the NTFS file system. If you’re not sure, here’s how to check: First, double-click the My Computer icon, right-click on the C: Drive, then select Properties. Next, examine the File System type; if it says FAT32, then back-up any important data. Next, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the prompt, type CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS and press the Enter key. This process may take a while; it’s important that the computer be uninterrupted and virus-free. The file system used by the bootable drive will be either FAT32 or NTFS. I highly recommend NTFS for its superior security, reliability, and efficiency with larger disk drives. 4.) Disable file indexing. The indexing service extracts information from documents and other files on the hard drive and creates a “searchable keyword index.” As you can imagine, this process can be quite taxing on any system.The idea is that the user can search for a word, phrase, or property inside a document, should they have hundreds or thousands of documents and not know the file name of the document they want. Windows XP’s built-in search functionality can still perform these kinds of searches without the Indexing service. It just takes longer. The OS has to open each file at the time of the request to help find what the user is looking for. Most people never need this feature of search. Those who do are typically in a large corporate environment where thousands of documents are located on at least one server. But if you’re a typical system builder, most of your clients are small and medium businesses. And if your clients have no need for this search feature, I recommend disabling it. Here’s how: First, double-click the My Computer icon. Next, right-click on the C: Drive, then select Properties.Uncheck “Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching.” Next, apply changes to “C: subfolders and files,” and click OK. If a warning or error message appears (such as “Access is denied”), click the Ignore All button. 5.) Update the PC’s video and motherboard chipset drivers. Also, update and configure the BIOS. For more information on how to configure your BIOS properly,see this article on my site. 6.) Empty the Windows Prefetch folder every three months or so. Windows XP can “prefetch” portions of data and applications that are used frequently. This makes processes appear to load faster when called upon by the user. That’s fine. But over time, the prefetch folder may become overloaded with references to files and applications no longer in use. When that happens, Windows XP is wasting time, and slowing system performance, by pre-loading them. Nothing critical is in this folder, and the entire contents are safe to delete. 7.) Once a month, run a disk cleanup. Here’s how: Double-click the My Computer icon. Then right-click on the C: drive and select Properties. Click the Disk Cleanup button — it’s just to the right of the Capacity pie graph — and delete all temporary files. 8.) In your Device Manager, double-click on the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers device, and ensure that DMA is enabled for each drive you have connected to the Primary and Secondary controller. Do this by double-clicking on Primary IDE Channel. Then click the Advanced Settings tab. Ensure the Transfer Mode is set to “DMA if available” for both Device 0 and Device 1. Then repeat this process with the Secondary IDE Channel. 9.) Upgrade the cabling. As hard-drive technology improves, the cabling requirements to achieve these performance boosts have become more stringent. Be sure to use 80-wire Ultra-133 cables on all of your IDE devices with the connectors properly assigned to the matching Master/Slave/Motherboard sockets. A single device must be at the end of the cable; connecting a single drive to the middle connector on a ribbon cable will cause signaling problems. With Ultra DMA hard drives, these signaling problems will prevent the drive from performing at its maximum potential. Also, because these cables inherently support “cable select,” the location of each drive on the cable is important. For these reasons, the cable is designed so drive positioning is explicitly clear. My computer decided to kick off the end of the year by picking up something that is making it act whacky. My AV (McAfee) is logging and blocking something called winupdate86 from creating files. Now it seems that every 20 minutes there is a pop up that states that Windows will download a anti spyware program. I have a virus that is not allowing me to view hidden files or folders. It won’t either allow me to run regedit or any programs to fix that. But I can access most of my files for backup. My sons have an HP one year old laptop running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Of course, just turned a year old two days ago and warranty is now up. There is not a lot of software on this thing. I installed ESET Nod32 and it runs well. I just scanned and there are no threats found. No popups are appearing in IE. There is no sign of a virus anywhere. There are multiple problems that I cannot figure out. When we try to shut the computer down, it gets stuck in Logging Off screen. I try Ctrl Alt Delete to bring up Task Manager but it will not appear. I get the Icon down in the lower right part of the screen, but cannot click on it to open it up. I tried to do a System Restore. I select it, but nothing happens. When I try doing it all over again, it says that it is already running, but it is not. I have tried uninstalling things they dont need but the uninstall freezes up also and when i hit cancel, it just remains cancelling without doing anything. I am usually pretty good at fixing things but this one has me stumped. If I could just do a restore, i feel like i could get it back to where it was before this started happening a couple of days ago,. Any help is appreciated. So, I have a 2 1/2 year old Windows Vista laptop, and about 4 months after I got it, the charger’s wire started making this sound, and soon enough, there was a hole in it right next to where you plug it into the computer. It’s like from the electricity burning through the wire or something. I bought a new one and about 6 months later that one broke too, the same way. I thought it was from bending it or something, so I bought ANOTHER one and kept that one in top shape: never bent it at all, made sure it was straight, etc, and this one decided to break. Okay so my middle school lets us borrow these HP laptops to take home everyday for the school year, and we have the responsiblity of charging the battery at home. I don’t think I’m losing the monitor, it’s a fairly new laptop designed for Windows XP by Dell. I’m renting to own it and before I’m done paying it off I want to make sure nothing is wrong with it. I’m having to write a program to use the Bisection Method to calculate the roots of an equation. I pretty much have everything done for that part, but I don’t know how to read in an equation from the user. I need to be able to ask the user what the equation is that they are wanting to use, and then somehow convert it to a usable format. Someone told me that one of java’s preloaded classes has a tool to where you can read in the equation as a string, and java can plug in an ‘x’ value to find ‘y.’ That is what I’m kind of needing to do… Just something so that they enter in the formula and can plug in 2 values. What I tried doing was asking the user for the coefficients and storing them in an array. I then used a for loop to call back all the coefficients and multiply them by the ‘x’ value. Everything in my code says that it should work, but when I try running it, I guess it is too complex because it never returns an answer or even move on to the next step… Can anyone help make my life easier??? Thanks!

Ok. I think that I know the solution, but I’m not too sure. the only hing on here that will make any sound what so ever are the drums. It may have something to do with the midi input device… I’ve got a midi output device selected, but apparently there wasn’t anything to select for the input. Could this be my problem? If it is where can I go to get the midi input device??? preference would be for free… thanks

I had to take my computer in to get it repaired after it crashed and malfunctioned. Now it won’t recognise the speakers. No sounds comes out whatsoever and the Sounds and Audio Devices menu just tells me that there are no audio devices installed. Is there anything I can download and install to get them working?

I have a desktop that has a network card and wireless network adapter. Running Windows 7. The wireless network adapter is the one connected to the internet. Then I turned on Internet Connection Sharing on it so that the wired connection can also get internet. My problem is that the IP address that is provided to the device connected to the wired local area connection keeps changing. The XBOX 360 can’t connect periodically and I have to reset the settings on it for it to get a new ip address. If I set the IP address manually, then it will work for a while and then won’t connect anymore until I make it get an automatic address (which gives it a new IP address). Then after a while it won’t connect again and I have to switch to manual and then automatic network settings again on the xbox360.

1. I click on firefox shortcut 2.firefox comes up with blank page and an UNTITLED tab 3. I click on tools, options, it says when firefox starts “Show my home page”, below that for home page it says “about: blank” 4. I typed in google, yahoo, youtube and others, even click on use bookmark picked random bookmark and also use current and it choose what I had loaded at the time, then clicked OK 5. Now the little house Icon in toolbar works when I click on it, it takes me to homepage when I am on something else. But once I close firefox and then reopen it, it still comes up a blank page with the untitled tab. Why isn’t it saving my homepage? And how to fix it so it saves it? Also removed and re-installed firefox (it even saved all the bookmarks and add ons)

I had 1 tab on my computer then I brought up microsoft word and the Internet but after a while the Internet a freezin up and it wouldn’t let me exit so I just brought up another internet tab but now my whole screen is messes up. the link on their official site points to a download from CNet, which is a simple file that will download many other parts from who-knows-where. I had trouble installing AVG Free from using this simple file. it quits on me many many times. the problem is solved when I download the full installation file, found in the maze of AVG forum. I want to reset my security password but when I try to it says I have to have the 10 digit Network Key to reset my password. o.k. this thing called security tool kept popping up and telling me all these viruses I had on the computer. okay, i sent my computer to a computer tech and now it signs me on my windows every time i restart my computer withoutt the password. i deleted the account and now it tries to sign on toUser namee: Owner Password:******* and an error msg occurs and sayslog inn failed and then i just sign in to windowsnormallyy… how the hell do i get rid of it ? i scanned my computer no worms, no virus… i know its a hack/ crack…. i have windows xp pro… 500 GB mem and ~4000 mb in Ram .. please tell me in the stupidest way possible.. imdyslexicc.. My laptop also has itunes. But the home computer is almost 7 years old. We think it runs so slowly b/c it has so much junk clogging up the hard drive. Whenever I try to uninstall Spy Sweeper, I get a prompt saying the uninstall program doesn’t exist (same result whether I do this through Start menu or Add or Remve Programs). I DLed Ccleaner and Revo but they don’t uninstall it either. I also tried reinstalling and then uninstalling but the installation cannot be completed because of an error. Using the cd won’t do the trick either; it cannot complete installation (error message). What may have caused this is a recent system restore that I had executed to prevent the progression of a virus after Spy Sweeper had already been uninstalled (I think). Hey, Since defragging the disk won’t do much to improve Windows XP performance, here are 23 suggestions that will. Each can enhance the performance and reliability of your customers’ PCs. Best of all, most of them will cost you nothing. 1.) To decrease a system’s boot time and increase system performance, use the money you save by not buying defragmentation software — the built-in Windows defragmenter works just fine — and instead equip the computer with an Ultra-133 or Serial ATA hard drive with 8-MB cache buffer. 2.) If a PC has less than 512 MB of RAM, add more memory. This is a relatively inexpensive and easy upgrade that can dramatically improve system performance. 3.) Ensure that Windows XP is utilizing the NTFS file system. If you’re not sure, here’s how to check: First, double-click the My Computer icon, right-click on the C: Drive, then select Properties. Next, examine the File System type; if it says FAT32, then back-up any important data. Next, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the prompt, type CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS and press the Enter key. This process may take a while; it’s important that the computer be uninterrupted and virus-free. The file system used by the bootable drive will be either FAT32 or NTFS. I highly recommend NTFS for its superior security, reliability, and efficiency with larger disk drives. 4.) Disable file indexing. The indexing service extracts information from documents and other files on the hard drive and creates a “searchable keyword index.” As you can imagine, this process can be quite taxing on any system.The idea is that the user can search for a word, phrase, or property inside a document, should they have hundreds or thousands of documents and not know the file name of the document they want. Windows XP’s built-in search functionality can still perform these kinds of searches without the Indexing service. It just takes longer. The OS has to open each file at the time of the request to help find what the user is looking for. Most people never need this feature of search. Those who do are typically in a large corporate environment where thousands of documents are located on at least one server. But if you’re a typical system builder, most of your clients are small and medium businesses. And if your clients have no need for this search feature, I recommend disabling it. Here’s how: First, double-click the My Computer icon. Next, right-click on the C: Drive, then select Properties.Uncheck “Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching.” Next, apply changes to “C: subfolders and files,” and click OK. If a warning or error message appears (such as “Access is denied”), click the Ignore All button. 5.) Update the PC’s video and motherboard chipset drivers. Also, update and configure the BIOS. For more information on how to configure your BIOS properly,see this article on my site. 6.) Empty the Windows Prefetch folder every three months or so. Windows XP can “prefetch” portions of data and applications that are used frequently. This makes processes appear to load faster when called upon by the user. That’s fine. But over time, the prefetch folder may become overloaded with references to files and applications no longer in use. When that happens, Windows XP is wasting time, and slowing system performance, by pre-loading them. Nothing critical is in this folder, and the entire contents are safe to delete. 7.) Once a month, run a disk cleanup. Here’s how: Double-click the My Computer icon. Then right-click on the C: drive and select Properties. Click the Disk Cleanup button — it’s just to the right of the Capacity pie graph — and delete all temporary files. 8.) In your Device Manager, double-click on the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers device, and ensure that DMA is enabled for each drive you have connected to the Primary and Secondary controller. Do this by double-clicking on Primary IDE Channel. Then click the Advanced Settings tab. Ensure the Transfer Mode is set to “DMA if available” for both Device 0 and Device 1. Then repeat this process with the Secondary IDE Channel. 9.) Upgrade the cabling. As hard-drive technology improves, the cabling requirements to achieve these performance boosts have become more stringent. Be sure to use 80-wire Ultra-133 cables on all of your IDE devices with the connectors properly assigned to the matching Master/Slave/Motherboard sockets. A single device must be at the end of the cable; connecting a single drive to the middle connector on a ribbon cable will cause signaling problems. With Ultra DMA hard drives, these signaling problems will prevent the drive from performing at its maximum potential. Also, because these cables inherently support “cable select,” the location of each drive on the cable is important. For these reasons, the cable is designed so drive positioning is explicitly clear. I believe I may have picked up a virus. Just yesterday my pc started acting “funny” - locking up when moving from one thing to another, etc. Then today I attempted to log into my online bank account and was taken to a page (which looked as though it was part of my bank’s site) that was asking for my name, dob, ss#, bank card number, pin, etc in order to “verify” me. I knew this wasn’t right so I closed internet explorer, re-opened and tried going to Ebay, when I attempted to log in there I was taken to the same sort of page but this time it looked like it was part of the Ebay site. My Dell D820’s touchpad is not working correctly. I can move the cursor, but it won’t click on anything. There doesn’t seem to be anything preventing the buttons from moving (dirt under buttons). An external mouse works fine. Adjusted the control panel settings. Updated the drivers. Did a virus scan. Tech support came up with nothing. Any ideas? My computer decided to kick off the end of the year by picking up something that is making it act whacky. My AV (McAfee) is logging and blocking something called winupdate86 from creating files. Now it seems that every 20 minutes there is a pop up that states that Windows will download a anti spyware program. This is the first time that this has happened to me, so I don’t know how to handle it. I don’t even know if this is spyware, malware, adware or trojan. Even my AV is logging all this it is still does not seem to see this as a problem. So if you could help by answering some questions I would greatly appreciate it. 1. My computer has two hard drives. The AV is logging and blocking files in the first hard drive. Is the second hard drive infected? 2. What free programs are out there to help remove this from my computer? 3. My friend had an executable file that kept trying to log onto the internet. He fixed it by changing the .exe in the file to a .txt. If I know what files are causing the problem can I do the same thing, without harming my computer? 4. Can I take both hard drives, place them in external hard drive enclosures and have a friend with a clean computer scan them to find and remove the problem? 5. Could AVG be downloaded onto a thumb drive and then used to scan my computer? 6. Would it be possible to move files from the second hard drive to an external hard drive without infecting anything? 7. All my friends have Vista or Windows 7. I used Windows XP. If they decided to scan my computer would this cause a conflict with my drives. That is it for now. I am kind paranoid about downloading and installing anything right now. If you can answer all the questions and give me any direction I would greatly appreciate it. They said nothing was wrong hardware wise, and that I had 6 viruses on the laptop. I have a virus that is not allowing me to view hidden files or folders. It won’t either allow me to run regedit or any programs to fix that. But I can access most of my files for backup. I just want to somehow select my hidden files, and copy them to a hard drive for backup, but it won’t let me unless I am able to view them. My computer (xp) kept on showing this message about this csrss.exe thing….i have no experience with computers but i looked it up and it said that it’s a system file or it cud be a virus??? i searched my computer for csrss.exe files and 3 results came up….i’ll copy them onto this but can anybody tell me if any of these are viruses or not? please CSRSS.EXE-03323C54.pf location=C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch csrss.exe location=C:\WINDOWS\system32 csrss.exe location=C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i38… P.S. i scanned them with AVG but it said that it has no infections…i don’t know if i shud trust AVG I also scanned my whole computer with AVg and the sign about the csrss.exe doesn’t come up anymore but i need to know if any of those files are viruses or not…thanks for the help

My sons have an HP one year old laptop running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Of course, just turned a year old two days ago and warranty is now up. There is not a lot of software on this thing. I installed ESET Nod32 and it runs well. I just scanned and there are no threats found. No popups are appearing in IE. There is no sign of a virus anywhere. There are multiple problems that I cannot figure out. When we try to shut the computer down, it gets stuck in Logging Off screen. I try Ctrl Alt Delete to bring up Task Manager but it will not appear. I get the Icon down in the lower right part of the screen, but cannot click on it to open it up. I tried to do a System Restore. I select it, but nothing happens. When I try doing it all over again, it says that it is already running, but it is not. I have tried uninstalling things they dont need but the uninstall freezes up also and when i hit cancel, it just remains cancelling without doing anything. I am usually pretty good at fixing things but this one has me stumped. If I could just do a restore, i feel like i could get it back to where it was before this started happening a couple of days ago,. Any help is appreciated. plus over 40 microsoft office programs have appeared. they are all the same but have a different language option. i have run a spybot , malwarebytes, and a AVG scan all done seprately and none came up with anything i am pretty sure there is something on my laptop but can not find it .

So, I have a 2 1/2 year old Windows Vista laptop, and about 4 months after I got it, the charger’s wire started making this sound, and soon enough, there was a hole in it right next to where you plug it into the computer. It’s like from the electricity burning through the wire or something. I bought a new one and about 6 months later that one broke too, the same way. I thought it was from bending it or something, so I bought ANOTHER one and kept that one in top shape: never bent it at all, made sure it was straight, etc, and this one decided to break. Is it the crappy quality of the chargers, or am I doing something wrong?

I would like a popup to appear when I click the login button. On that pop up, the user will enter his username and password. If he successfully logs in, the popup closes and the main page redirects to the home page. I’m using C# on ASP.NET.

Basically i bought a new PC and i want it to have internet. I CAN call my ISP and tell them to change my mac address, but i want to have internet on the old PC WITHOUT a router So is there any method to do this: unplug the cable from the old pc and plug it in the new one and have internet, if i want internet on the old pc i just put the cable back there…i this possible??

Okay so my middle school lets us borrow these HP laptops to take home everyday for the school year, and we have the responsiblity of charging the battery at home. So I like to put my laptop on stand by alot because then I don’t have to wait for it to start up. But someone told me that if you put your laptop on stand by while charging it overnight, it could heat up your laptop & the battery could explode . (We have these heavy batteries that last 12 hrs) Is it best to put it on stand by or completely shut it down while charging my laptop while I’m sleeping?

I’ve had my laptop a little over 3 years and it’s been slowing down over the years. For example, it takes a couple minutes to open Mozilla Firefox. I know it has to do with all of the junk on my hard drive, but I don’t know how to go about cleaning it out. Should I completely wipe out my computer and start anew? If so, - will I have to re-order/ pay for programs such as Norton Antivirus? - will I need to install another copy of Microsoft Office/ buy a new version? Or, is there any FREE program that can help clean out the junk on my hard drive without completely wiping it out? If so, - Please name and describe the program. I don’t think I’m losing the monitor, it’s a fairly new laptop designed for Windows XP by Dell. I’m renting to own it and before I’m done paying it off I want to make sure nothing is wrong with it. I don’t use up a lot of space more 2/3rds of the hard drive memory is still available. No viruses ect. The laptop tends to get hot, so I have an icepack wrapped in plastic to keep it cool and protect against moisture. It’s doing a great job at keeping cool. Hello, I currently bought a computer and i installed all the anti-virus and other software. I want my internet to work but when i go to my hardware files. Ethernet Controller and Bus Controller and 2 other software have a question mark next to them. It says that there is errors installing it. I suddenly noticed that most files names turned blue in font color in every directory i enter. i can not seem to change it back to black and i do not understand what have caused it. i thought maybe it is a virus or spyware since it happened suddenly, i checked for viruses and spywares/malwares and i could not find anything. My home is only 1400 feet away from a 733 foot, 50,000 watt radio tower and another smaller radio tower next to it. In the past, I’ve had problems with my garage door opening with the remote. Now, my new computer is acting up. Sometimes when I start it up it just gets to the desktop and doesn’t load anything. No matter what I click nothing loads or happens. I scanned it with 3 different anti-virus/spyware programs and nothing was found. The room its in has a window facing directly at the towers. I blocked the window with some stuff and the computer works normally so far. Could the electromagnetic radiation be affecting my pc? I recently bought a laptop over Christmas along with Microsoft 2007 Home & Student and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 (they are both on disc/CDs). Do I still need an internet connection for installing them, like if I was required to activate something online? I know on boxes of both it says if you don’t have a CD drive you can install if online, since they give you an activation code. I DO have a CD drive. today a friend downloaded a .txt file on my computer and i later looked at it and it said it was about 8.4mb… which is incredibly large for a text file. i did put it into microsoft word and it said there was about 30,000 pages and roughly 1million words if that helps… but i just don’t know if there could somehow be a keylogger or virus hidden in that .txt file seeing it was so large.. i use firefox, and when to the downloads window and right clicked the original download, but it did not allow me to open the file or open the containing folder… i deleted it off of the downloads window i did a full virus scan on my computer and nothing came up- i also tried to do a system restore but it told me my anti virus program was preventing it from working. i disabled my anti-virus program and tried it again but system restore still didn’t work. i use norton anti-virus. long story short, from the information provided, i would like to know if i could possibly have a keylogger on my computer, how to detect it and how to remove it. thank you very much. I deleted norton virus since my account already expired. So I borrowed my brother’s Mcafee and installed it to my computer. I tried getting on the Internet but when I do the page connection says cannot be connected. So I checked the signal strength and it says ” very good” but it’s still not connected? Personally I never have 2 Anti-Virus programs installed at the same time. They seem to have a knack for totally screwing each other up. They like to detect each other as a virus signature and tend to blow each other up. ~Yiffy MSE

Why do I always have to wait for the download bar on videos to load before i watch a movie? I have done several anti-virus scans and my anti-virus is up to date.
